Dr. Horst-Tanu Margraf was a German conductor active in East Germany, notably serving as the general music director of the Landestheater Halle from 1950. During World War II, he was a music director in Lemberg, contributing to the revival of Handel's operas at Göttingen until 1945. He played a vital role in establishing the Handel Festival in Halle in 1952 and conducted many of Handel's works with the Staatskapelle Halle, reviving compositions not seen since the 1920s. He retired in 1969 and passed away in 1978.
