Mohammed Hosni Said Mubarak (1928-2020) was the President of Egypt from 1981 until 2011. He initially served as a pilot in the Egyptian Air Force and became Chief of Staff and later Commander-in-Chief. He played a key role in the 1973 Yom Kippur War as a lieutenant general. Mubarak took office after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat in October 1981. He also served briefly as Prime Minister. His presidency ended in February 2011 when he resigned following widespread protests against his rule.
