Houchang Nahavandi, born in 1930 in Rasht, is a former Iranian minister and university professor who has been in exile since the Iranian Revolution of 1979. He served as a political economy professor and held the position of president of Shiraz University (1968-1971) and Tehran University (1971-1977), later becoming chairman until February 1979. Nahavandi was the Minister of Development from 1964 to 1968 and the Minister of Higher Education in a transitional government during September and October 1978, in the final phases of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi's regime. He is the father of Belgian sociologist Viroze Nahavandi.
