Hovnan Derderian, born Vahram on December 1, 1957, in Beirut, Lebanon, is the current Archbishop of the Western Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in North America. He studied at the Theological Seminary of the Cilician Catholicate from 1970 to 1975 and continued his studies in Echmiadzin. Ordained as a celibate priest in 1980, he took the monastic name Hovnan. He served in various educational and clerical roles, becoming the Primate of the Diocese of Canada in 1990 and later the Primate of the Western Diocese of the USA in 2005.
