Howard A. Newman was an American investment and railroad manager born on February 2, 1921, in Cedarhurst, New York. He was the son of Wall Street investor Jerome Newman and studied economics at Cornell University. During World War II, he served as a Marine officer. Newman became president of the Philadelphia and Reading Corporation after acquiring it through Graham-Newman in 1955. He later led Western Pacific Industries until it was sold to Danaher Corporation in 1986. Active in philanthropy, he supported various organizations and was married four times.
