Howard O'Hagan (1902-1982) was a prominent Canadian writer known for his novel 'Tay John' (1939), which portrays the life of Iroquois fur trader Tête Jaune. Born in Lethbridge, Alberta, O'Hagan initially worked as a surveyor and later pursued law at McGill University but quickly returned to mountain guiding. He was married to artist Margaret Peterson and lived in various countries before settling in Victoria, British Columbia. O'Hagan's later works included 'Wilderness Men' (1958) and 'The Woman Who Got on at Jasper Station' (1963). His legacy is honored by the Howard O'Hagan Award for Short Fiction.
