Hugo Cantergiani was a Brazilian aviator born on January 2, 1908, in Caxias do Sul. He is recognized as the first martyr of Brazilian civil aviation. After completing his training at the Army Aeronautics School, he faced a life-altering accident in 1933 that left him with a permanently disabled arm. Despite this, he contributed to aviation education by co-founding a flight school. Tragically, he died in an airplane crash during an instructional flight in February 1937. His legacy includes a notable demonstration where he wrote 'BRASIL' in smoke from his aircraft.
