Hugo Eduardo Polanco Brito was a Dominican bishop and cleric born on October 13, 1918, in San Juan Evangelista de Salcedo. He entered the Pontifical Seminary Santo Tomás de Aquino in 1933, studying philosophy and theology. He was ordained a priest in 1944 and later appointed as the first bishop of Santiago de los Caballeros in 1956. Polanco Brito was also a participant at the Second Vatican Council and served as Archbishop ad personam of Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia in Higüey until his retirement in 1995, receiving two notable awards.
