Huomen was the first transgenic cow in the Nordic countries, born on December 17, 1993, and known as the 'cow of tomorrow'. She contained the gene for erythropoietin (EPO), linked to red blood cell growth. Despite high hopes for her milk treating conditions like anemia, cancer, and AIDS, she was never bred for milk production. Huomen became a symbol of the Finnish biotechnology industry but faced various health issues, leading to her assisted death in 2001. After her death, she was dissected and displayed at the Kuopio Natural History Museum.
