Hüsameddin Gökay was a notable Turkish neurosurgeon born in Eskişehir. He studied medicine at Istanbul University and Indiana University from 1945 to 1951, then specialized in general and neurosurgery in the USA. After returning to Turkey in 1956, he became a neurosurgery expert and later served as a clinic chief. He was appointed associate professor in 1968 and became a full professor in 1969 at Istanbul University. Gökay was proficient in English, French, and German and contributed significantly to his field until his retirement in 1993, passing away on April 1, 2021.
