Sir Huw Wheldon was a prominent British broadcaster and producer at the BBC during the 1950s and 1960s. Born in Prestatyn and raised in Bangor, he began his broadcasting career as a presenter on the children's show 'All Your Own'. He served as editor of the arts program 'Monitor' from 1958 to 1964 and became head of BBC documentary programs in 1962. Wheldon was knighted in 1976 for his contributions to broadcasting and held the position of Managing Director of BBC Television from 1968 until his retirement in 1975.
