Hyon Yong-chol was a North Korean military officer and politician, born on January 11, 1949. He joined the army in 1966 and eventually became a battalion commander. In 2009, he was elected to the Supreme People's Assembly and was appointed Minister of Defense in 2014. His tenure ended abruptly when Kim Jong-un ordered his execution by anti-aircraft fire on April 30, 2015, reportedly due to charges of betrayal and disrespect towards Kim during a military parade.
