Ian Gray Kidd was a British classical scholar and historian of philosophy, born in Chandernagor, French India, on March 6, 1922. He studied Classics at the University of St Andrews and served as a lieutenant in North Africa and Italy during WWII. After his studies, he became an assistant lecturer and eventually a professor at St Andrews. Renowned for his work on the Stoic philosopher Poseidonius, his groundbreaking edition of fragments is widely recognized. Kidd was also active in academic administration and earned several honors, including fellowship in the British Academy.
