Sir George Iain Duncan Smith, born April 9, 1954, commonly known as IDS, is a British politician from the Conservative Party. He served as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions from 2010 to 2016 and was previously the Conservative Party leader and Leader of the Opposition from 2001 to 2003. A Member of Parliament for Chingford and Woodford Green since 1992, he is the son of a Royal Air Force pilot, educated at HMS Conway and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Smith founded the Centre for Social Justice and was a strong advocate on issues affecting disabled individuals.
