Ian Curtis was an English singer and songwriter, born in Manchester on July 15, 1956. He was the lead vocalist of the influential band Joy Division. Curtis struggled with depression and epilepsy, leading to his tragic suicide on May 18, 1980, just before a North American tour, which resulted in the disbandment of Joy Division and the formation of New Order. He was known for his baritone voice, distinctive dancing style, and poignant lyrics that reflected themes of isolation, despair, and emptiness.
