Ian Thorpe is a former Australian Olympic swimmer born on October 13, 1982. He won five Olympic gold medals, making him the most successful Australian athlete in terms of medals. At 14, he became the youngest swimmer to compete in Australia, later winning the 400m freestyle title at the World Swimming Championships. By 2004, he had claimed victory in every major competition, including the Olympics and Commonwealth Games, and broke 13 world records. After a break post-2004 Athens Olympics, he retired from swimming at the age of 24 on November 21, 2006.
