He headed the Special Operations Department but was dismissed in 1996 due to connections with ultra-nationalist figures. The Susurluk scandal linked him to a broader conspiracy, resulting in his arrest and acquittal. His career suffered further setbacks due to weapons-related charges, leading to a prison term. A traffic accident in 2008 impaired his memory, and in 2009 he was implicated in the investigation of the Ergenekon organization.
