Ignatia Broker, also known as Nibowisegwe, was a Chippewa writer born in 1917 in White Earth, Minnesota. She studied and taught, and worked for the U.S. Army in the 1940s. In 1972, she founded the Minnesota American Indian Historical Society. A recognized storyteller, she authored 'Night Flying Woman: An Ojibway Narrative' in 1983, which includes traditional stories like 'Ahmik Nishgadahzee,' a Native American version of Bambi, and 'Weegwahsimitig,' the tale of a tree.
