Igor Vsevolodovich Girkin, born on December 17, 1970, in Moscow, is a Russian military officer and politician known by the alias Igor Strelkov. He served as a colonel in the GRU, the Russian military intelligence agency, and was one of the military leaders of the Donetsk People's Republic during the 2014 war in Eastern Ukraine. A Dutch court in The Hague sentenced Girkin to life imprisonment for his role in the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17, and an international arrest warrant has been issued for him.
