Ilarion, born David Kitia in Khachuri on November 22, 1957, is the Bishop of Mestia and Upper Svaneti. He has had a significant ecclesiastical career, beginning as a deacon on November 4, 1998, and later becoming a priest on February 15, 1999. Ilarion was tonsured a monk on December 4, 2000, appointed as igumen (abbot) on November 4, 2001, and ultimately consecrated as the bishop of the Mestia-Svaneti diocese on November 3, 2002. His cathedral and residency are located in Mestia.
