Ilie Murgulescu was a Romanian physical chemist, author, and communist politician born on January 27, 1902, in Bucharest. He served as the President of the Romanian Academy from 1960 to 1963 and was the Minister of Education during two terms. He founded the Institute of Physical Chemistry at the Romanian Academy and wrote his doctoral thesis on photochemistry. Murgulescu authored a seven-volume series titled 'Introducere în chimia fizică', published between 1976 and 1984, and he conducted significant research on molten salts.
