Ilmari Rönkä was an American-Finnish trombonist and bandleader born on May 14, 1905, in Ely, Minnesota. He used the pseudonyms Elmer Rönkä and Elmer Ronka as a musician. In 1929, he recorded two instrumental tracks in New York with his Finnish orchestra. After working as a trombonist for the NBS Symphony Orchestra, he moved to California in 1945 where he founded the San Fernando Valley Symphony Orchestra, serving as its conductor. He passed away on February 17, 2001.
