Ilya Mark Scheinker was a Russian neurologist and neuropathologist, born on June 25, 1902, in Tula. He contributed significantly to medicine by collaborating with Josef Gerstmann and Ernst Sträussler in 1936 to describe a variant of Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease known as Gerstmann–Sträussler–Scheinker syndrome. After studying at the University of Jena and the University of Vienna, he fled to Paris and then to New York, where he worked at Cincinnati General Hospital and later taught at New York Medical College until his death on August 26, 1954.
