Ilyas Khleel Jreis Smarna was a Jordanian journalist, teacher, and poet born on May 15, 1946, in the town of Al-Taybeh, Irbid. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Arabic literature from Beirut Arab University in 1980 and a postgraduate diploma in the same field from the Jesuit University in 1982. He worked as an Arabic teacher from 1969 to 1989 and contributed poetry to various newspapers and the magazine 'Afkar.' Although he did not publish any books during his lifetime, a poetry collection titled 'Topography of the Tired Face' was released posthumously in 2011. He died on May 10, 1998, in Zarqa.
