Imanol Larzabal Goñi, known as Imanol, was a Basque singer and songwriter born on November 11, 1947, in San Sebastián. He was a staunch advocate for Basque culture and language, starting his musical career in Basque in 1964. Exiled during Franco's dictatorship, he faced harassment later in life from ETA. His music featured collaborations with notable artists and focused on cultural initiatives. His participation in a tribute to ex-ETA activist Yoyes led to public backlash and threats against him. He died unexpectedly on June 25, 2004, from a brain hemorrhage while preparing for a tribute concert.
