Ingemar Somberg, born Johansson in 1924, was a Swedish volunteer in the Waffen-SS who attained the rank of SS-Unterscharführer. Fascinated with weaponry from a young age, he trained at Skodaverken in his teens. He joined the Waffen-SS in 1940 and participated in Operation Barbarossa, serving initially with Division Wiking before moving to Division Nordland. He deserted in September 1944 after encountering mechanical problems with his vehicle and, along with two companions, crossed into enemy territory and engaged in combat before eventually escaping to Finland, where they were briefly detained.
