Inger Margrethe Gaarder was a Norwegian children's author born on June 8, 1926. She began her literary career in 1977 with her debut book, 'Nikolai begynner på skolen'. Gaarder wrote several books featuring myths and fairy tales from Sri Lanka and India, as well as contributed to primary school textbooks. She received the Cappelen Prize in 1986 and was the mother of notable authors Jostein Gaarder and Helge Gaarder. She passed away on December 31, 1993.
