Ion Covaci, born on January 30, 1940, in Oradea and deceased in October 2010 in Bucharest, was a Romanian translator, writer, and journalist. He completed his philological studies at the University of Iași in 1969 and worked as an editor at Agerpres from 1970 to 1989. Covaci was also the editor-in-chief at Rompres from 1990 to 1992 and directed FFPress from 1992 to 2000. Though he debuted as a poet in 1966, he gained prominence as a translator, particularly of Russian literature, collaborating frequently with his brother, Aurel Covaci.
