Ion Pistol was a Romanian convicted murderer, notable for being the last person executed in the Socialist Republic of Romania before the fall of the Ceaușescus. He was tried for the murder of his mother in April 1986 and received a death sentence. After his plea for clemency was rejected, he was executed by shooting on 12 May 1987. His case drew attention due to the public nature of his trial and the claims made by his lawyer regarding the legitimacy of capital punishment.
