Brigadier General Ion Solonenco (1935-2022) was a senior officer in the Moldovan Ground Forces who served as Deputy Minister of National Security in 1996. He was co-chairman of the Joint Control Commission for resolving the conflict between Moldova and Transnistria from 1999 onwards. Solonenco was awarded the Order of Work Glory in 2005 for his contributions to state security. He passed away in Chișinău at the age of 87.
