Ion Stoica is a Romanian–American computer scientist born in 1964 or 1965, recognized for his expertise in distributed systems, cloud computing, and computer networking. He holds a position as a professor of computer science at the University of California, Berkeley, where he also co-directs the AMPLab. Stoica is a co-founder of Conviva and Databricks, having collaborated with the original developers of Apache Spark. As of April 2022, he and Matei Zaharia were ranked as the 3rd-richest individuals in Romania, with a net worth of $1.6 billion.
