Irineu Riet Correa Amaral is a Uruguayan politician born on February 8, 1945, in Castillos, Rocha. He is a member of the National Party and a veterinarian by profession. He studied at the veterinary faculty of the Universidad de la República in Montevideo starting in 1963. After moving to Brazil in 1974, he became involved in political activities among exiled Uruguayans. He returned to Uruguay in 1989, where he was elected Intendente of Rocha's Departamento, serving from 1990 to 1994 and again from 2000 to 2005.
