Iris von Bredow was a German ancient historian, translator, and novelist. Born on February 28, 1948, in Hannover, she studied ancient history and classical philology in Sofia. After obtaining her doctorate and habilitation in Hittitology, she worked for many years at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the University of Sofia. From 1995, she served at the Volkshochschule Ludwigsburg. She also held lectureships at several universities and published a historical novel titled 'Die zierliche Rhodope' in 2007.
