Irmin Henkel (1921-1977) was a South African painter of German descent, known for his portrait work and abstract landscapes. He studied medicine and served in the military during World War II before dedicating himself fully to art. Henkel moved to South Africa in 1951, where he gained recognition for his portraits, including a notable one of Prime Minister Daniel François Malan. Later in his career, he focused on still lifes and landscapes, becoming a full-time painter. He unexpectedly passed away in Pretoria, where a street is named in his honor.
