Isabel Martínez de Perón, born María Estela Martínez Cartas de Perón on February 4, 1931, is a former president of Argentina. She served as both vice president and the First Lady during her husband Juan Perón's third presidential term from 1973 to 1974. After his death in 1974, she became president from July 1, 1974, until March 24, 1976. Known for being the first female president of Argentina, she was later arrested on January 12, 2007, in Spain related to the disappearance of an activist in February 1976.
