Issei Fujiwara was a Japanese children's literature author, born on May 1, 1924, in Tokyo. With his parents missing, he grew up in a Christian facility. After completing his compulsory education, he worked at a printing company and later in a bookstore. He served in China during World War II and became a writer in 1952. His notable work, 'Taro and Jiro Survived', published in 1959, inspired the film 'Antarctic Story'. He also founded the Japan Kendama Association in 1975, promoting kendama as a sport and establishing competition standards.
