István Kardos was a Hungarian writer, screenwriter, producer, dramaturg, and teacher born on May 12, 1942, in Galánta, Slovakia. He won the Balázs Béla Prize in 1981 and is notable for being the only writer in Hungary who exclusively wrote films and screenplays. Kardos was also the brother of film director Ferenc Kardos. He passed away on September 24, 2002, in Budapest.
