István Kónya is a Hungarian lutenist born in 1962 in Nagykanizsa. He earned a teaching diploma in music and history in 1985 and studied classical guitar at the Franz Liszt Academy in Debrecen. He furthered his studies in lute at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and later obtained a diploma in chamber music. Kónya is active in music education, leading masterclasses in Hungary, and he directs the International Lute and Guitar Festival in Győr. He has collaborated with various notable musicians and performed at festivals across Europe.
