István Pártos was a Hungarian-Jewish violinist born on March 1, 1903, in Budapest. He was regarded as a musical prodigy in classical music, but his life was tragically cut short when he died at the young age of 16 due to the Spanish flu pandemic that swept through parts of Europe and the world from 1918 to 1920. Pártos was seen as the greatest hope for Hungarian music, with composer Zoltán Kodály lamenting that he was destined to replace the legendary violinist Joseph Joachim.
