István Szirmai was a Hungarian politician affiliated with several communist parties, including the Communist Party of Hungary, the Hungarian Workers' Party, and eventually the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party. Born on April 13, 1906, in Zilah (now Romania), he served as Secretary of the Central Committee of the MSZMP. He became a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee in 1962 and remained part of this highest leadership body until his death on September 29, 1969, in Budapest.
