Iwan Wasiliewicz Dorba was a Russian émigré political activist, Soviet translator, and author born on January 25, 1906, in Ukraine. Initially named Vladimir Dmitrievich Chebotaev, he studied at a cavalry corps and worked as a surveyor. He collaborated with Soviet intelligence after being arrested during a secret mission to the USSR. During World War II, he served in the Red Army and later became a translator, writing critically about Russian emigrants in Yugoslavia. He was recognized with a literary award from the KGB for his works, including 'Белые тени' and 'Загадки Стамбула'.
