Ivan Novikaw was a Belarusian prose writer and journalist, born on January 21, 1918, in the village of Niaznan, Klimavichy district. He became a member of the Belarusian Writers' Union in 1961 and the Belarusian Union of Journalists in 1958. Novikaw was honored as a Meritorious Figure of Culture of the BSSR in 1967. He received several prestigious awards, including the Y. Kolas Prize in 1965 for his documentary story 'Crossroads in Minsk' and the State Prize of Belarus in 1974 for the screenplay of the six-part television film 'Ruins Shoot...'.
