Ivan Petrovac was a Rusyn poet and writer born on May 24, 1945, in Osij, Subcarpathian Rus. He worked in various jobs including as a loader, driver, and teacher. He served in the army for three and a half years in Germany. After studying French philology, he became a teacher and later a journalist. Writing in Ukrainian during the communist era, he later faced exclusion from the Ukrainian Writers' Union for his Rusyn identity. He received several awards for his literary contributions, including international recognition for Rusyn literature.
