Karl Ivar Martinsen was a Norwegian speed skater born on December 8, 1920, in Løten, Norway. He began competing in his youth during the late 1930s and participated in the unofficial World Championship in 1946 after World War II. Martinsen took part in the 1948 Winter Olympics, finishing 16th in the 1500 meters, and improved to 8th place in the same event at the 1952 Winter Olympics. He won bronze medals at both the 1952 World Championships and the 1953 European Championships, with his last competitions occurring in 1956. He passed away on September 24, 2018.
