Ivars Silis, born December 1, 1940, in Riga, is a Latvian-born engineer, author, and photographer who has lived in Denmark and Greenland since 1944. After fleeing Latvia to Copenhagen with his family, he trained as a geophysicist and participated in numerous expeditions, making him a prominent member of the Explorers' Club. His award-winning documentaries, 'Frozen Annals' and 'Andala og Sofiannguaq', showcase his expertise in Arctic climate research. Known for his photography and books on Greenland, he is married to artist Aka Høegh and is the father of filmmaker Inuk Silis Høegh.
