Iya Abubakar is a Nigerian politician and mathematician born in December 1934. He studied at the University of Ibadan and obtained his PhD from the University of Cambridge. He served as a visiting professor at the University of Michigan and later became a mathematics professor at Ahmadu Bello University at the age of 28. He held various significant roles, including Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Minister of Defense, and was elected to the Nigerian Senate. He also served as Director of the Central Bank of Nigeria and later as the President of the University of Ibadan.
