Iztok Geister is a Slovene writer, poet, essayist, and ornithologist born on August 20, 1945, in Laško. He gained prominence for his avant-garde poetry in the 1960s and 1970s and co-founded the Slovenian branch of BirdLife International. With a background in law from the University of Ljubljana, he has dedicated over thirty years to freelance artistry and naturalism. Geister received the Rožanc Award in 2001 for his essays 'Levitve' and the Prešeren Foundation Award in 2005 for 'Pospala poželenja.'
