Jagannathan Shivashanmugam (1901-1975) was an influential Indian politician associated with the Indian National Congress. He made history as the first Scheduled Caste mayor of Madras in 1938 and later became the first Speaker of the Madras Legislative Assembly post-independence, serving from 1951 to 1955. Shivashanmugam also held roles in the Union Public Service Commission and as a member of the Rajya Sabha. A graduate of Loyola College and Madras University, he had a family with three sons and a daughter, and he passed away at 73.
