Jaap Havekotte was a Dutch speed skater and the founder of Viking Schaatsenfabriek, renowned for producing popular ice skates. He participated in multiple Dutch championships during the 1940s, and his company significantly impacted the sport, leading to the Viking skate being used for all speed skating world records by 1972. Viking was also the first to mass-produce the clap skate. Due to his influence, later generations of skaters affectionately referred to him as 'Oom Jaap' or 'Uncle Jaap'. He lived to be 102 years old, passing away on 23 April 2014.
