Jacob Herman (Jaap) van Meekren was a Dutch television journalist and presenter born on November 25, 1923, in Amsterdam. He grew up in a liberal Jewish family and studied at Vossius Gymnasium before World War II disrupted his education. In 1941, he was forced to leave non-Jewish schools and narrowly escaped deportation by securing a position with the Jewish Council of Amsterdam. Throughout the war, he evaded capture and lived in hiding at various addresses, while his parents survived imprisonment at Theresienstadt. He passed away on August 26, 1997.
